Do Lash Extensions Damage
Your Natural Lashes?

Do lash extensions damage natural lashes?

Lash extensions do not have to damage your natural lashes. Damage usually comes from a set that is too heavy, from pulling or picking at the extensions, or from poor aftercare. I’m Julia, a lash artist in Vancouver, WA, and this is a question many new clients ask me before their first visit.

Below I explain what can harm natural lashes and how to prevent it. The quick table shows the main causes, and the details follow it. You can also read my guide to how long lash extensions last.

Lash Damage: What Causes It

Extensions rest on your natural lashes, so the weight and length of the set matter. A set that is too heavy or too long can put strain on a lash. Picking, pulling or rubbing the extensions can pull natural lashes out with them, and oil-based products can weaken the glue.
Natural lashes also shed on their own as part of their growth cycle, and an extension sheds together with its natural lash. That is why losing a few extensions between refills is normal.

How to Prevent It

Lash extension aftercare: what to do and what to avoid

A good set is matched to your natural lashes, not only to the look you want. At VIVA BRILLIANCE, lash health comes first, and every service is tailored to your natural lashes.
At home, keep oil-based products away from your eyes, do not rub or pull your lashes, and brush them gently. Refill every 2 to 3 weeks, and have your extensions removed by a professional.

What Should You Do?

Choose a set that suits your natural lashes, and tell me if they are thin or sensitive. I offer a free consultation, and you can also see my guide to classic vs hybrid vs volume lashes, or check lash extension prices in Vancouver, WA.

If your eyes become red, swollen or painful, see a doctor.
