How Long Do Lash Extensions Last?

I’m Julia, a lash artist in Vancouver, WA, and the question I hear most often after a first set is simple: how long will my lashes last?
Below you will find how long each set lasts, when to book your refill, and what helps your lashes stay full between visits. The quick table shows the refill schedule for each style, and the details follow it. You can also see all my lash extension services in Vancouver, WA on one page.

How Long a Full Set Lasts: Lash Fill Every 2 to 3 Weeks
Lash extensions are attached to your natural lashes, so they stay on only as long as each natural lash does. Every natural lash grows and sheds on its own cycle, and when it sheds, the extension goes with it. That is why a full set slowly thins out, and why a refill keeps it full. Your natural lashes renew themselves every 6 to 8 weeks or so, and you lose a few every day without noticing. Without a refill, a set can stay on for about 6 to 8 weeks, but it looks sparse and uneven well before that.
This is why I recommend a refill every 2 to 3 weeks, and no later than 3 weeks after your last visit. Staying on schedule is also the most affordable way to keep your lashes full, because a refill costs less than a new full set.
What Makes Lash Extensions Last Longer
Several things decide how long your set looks good. Your natural lash cycle matters most, and it is different for everyone, so some clients shed faster than others. Oily skin and oily products can also break down the adhesive faster.
Aftercare makes a real difference. Do not wet your lashes for the first few hours after your appointment. After that, wash them regularly with a gentle lash cleanser, because skin oil weakens the bond, and gently brush them with the lash brush I give you. Keep oils, oil-based cleansers and mascara away from them, and do not pick, pull or rub your lashes or dry them with a fluffy towel.
Lighter sets put less weight on each natural lash, and I always match the thickness and length of the extensions to your natural lash. If you like a natural look with extra fullness, see my hybrid lash extensions in Vancouver, WA.
Lash Fill vs New Set: When to Refill
How do you know it is time for a refill? Look for gaps between your lashes, extensions that have grown far from your lash line, or lashes that twist or stick together. If you notice any of these, it is time to book.
A refill works when enough of your original set is still on. If more than 3 weeks have passed and much of the set has shed, a new full set is the better choice, because there is not enough left to fill. This is the main reason I ask you to come in no later than 3 weeks.
